ALLAH the Exalted says ~
‘For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee. Source~ ‘Qur’an’ Surat Al-Ĥijr (The Rocky Tract) 15 A #42-43

‘Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy, he only invites his party to be among the companions of the Blaze’. Source~ ‘Qur’an’ ~Surat Fatir 35: A # 6

‘Verily the believer exhausts his devil just like one of you exhausts his camel during travel.’ meaning the believer wears out his devil, so he debilitates him and makes him lose weight from his grief and sadness because he is not able to tempt him! Just like the person wears out his riding camel during travel and makes it lose weight due to the length of the travel and its hardships and this is the condition of the believer with his devil in the constant struggle with him he resists his plots and plans and whispers by always being firm upon the obedience of ALLAH the Exalted and Mighty… !}

Ibn Abi Dunya{Allah be pleased with him} narrates in his book “The plots of the devil” Verily a devil meets another devil so he says to him why is it that I see you looking so sickly? (Meaning the change is weight)” The other devil replies…’ Verily I am with a man that if he eats he remembers the name of ALLAH ! so I can not eat with him…! and if he drinks he remembers the name of ALLAH so I can not drink with him! and if he enters into his home he remembers the name of ALLAH so I am rejected outside of the house’…!}
The other devil says, but as for me then I am with a man if he eats he does not remember ALLAH so he and I eat together, and if he drinks he does not remember ALLAH so I drink with him, and when he enters his home he does not remember ALLAH so I enter with him…{!}

a Little Note…
Exhaust: weaken; meaning they exhaust him making him lose weight. Thus making him a ‘Nidwan’ (the ‘Nidwu’ is an animal that has become lean, skinny through traveling thus its meat has left its body !}

House Of The Munaafiqeen

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

“Thus have We appointed for every Nabi enemies who are human devils and jinn devils. They whisper to one another adorned statements of deception (for misleading and deceiving) (Al-An’aam, 112)

An unknown entity dubbing itself ‘house of the ummah’, in an ‘open letter’ to Ta’leemuddin Madrasah of Isipingo Beach, has exhibited its  colossal jahaalat of the Shariah. In its pontification of jahaalat, which is an abortive attempt to change the Law of Allah Ta’ala pertaining to Salaat and the Musaajid, this miscreant entity in defence of the closure of the Musaajid, presents the following spurious and haraam arguments:

(1)  “The whole defiance is premised on the notion that it is a ‘sin’ not to pray in mosques, and those allowing such a state of affairs will be questioned by Allah.”

In this averment, the miscreant entity is alleging that:

(a)   The Mufti Sahib and the trustees of the Isipingo Musjid are acting in criminal defiance of the authorities.

(b)   It is not a sin not to pray in the Musaajid.

(c)  The Ulama and trustees who allow Salaat in the Musaajid will be questioned by Allah Ta’ala.

As for (a) above: The Mufti Sahib and the trustees of the Musjid are not acting in criminal defiance of the authorities as this munaafiq entity implies or alleges. It is the constitutional and religious right of Muslims to perform Ibaadat in the Musjid. This stance of the Mufti Sahib is based on the constitutional imperative of the freedom of religion as enshrined in the Bill of Rights. It is the government who is in violation of the constitution. In addition to having decreed large scale erosion of civil liberties of the whole populace, the government has totally eliminated our right of freedom of worship in our Musaajid.

For having trampled on our right of worship in the Musaajid, the government has shown no rationality. Its decree in this regard is bereft of rationality and legal validity. This point will be elaborated further on, Insha-Allah. At this juncture it suffices to say that the proclamation of the Shariah’s Law pertaining to Fardh Salaat with Jamaat and Jumuah Salaat in the Musaajid   should not in any way be misinterpreted to mean ‘defiance’ of the government.

(b) As for (b) above: The claim of the entity confirms its gross jahaalat. This entity has no right to open its mouth on matters of Shar’i import. It has exhibited its ignorance in this baseless averment.

On the contrary, it is a grievous sin – a major sin – a Kabeerah sin – to abstain from Jamaat Salaat in the Musjid. It is not permissible for males to perform Salaat at home when there is a nearby Musjid or even a Jamaat Khaanah. A male who absents himself from Jamaat Salaat is a faasiq.

A Musjid is not a recreational venue. It is not a hall for functions and merrymaking. It is the HOUSE of ALLAH where our Creator is worshipped with utmost reverence and dignity by worshippers who are pure – physically and spiritually.  The Qur’aan explicitly states that the Musaajid are exclusively for the Ibaadat of Allah Azza Wa Jal. Musjids are not museums.

The idea that it is not a sin not to pray in the Musjid is vehemently dismissed with contempt.  It is akin to kufr to make such spurious claims in diametric conflict with the Shariah. Jamaat Salaat and Jumuah Salaat are Waajib in the Musaajid. It is not permissible to perform Fardh Salaat in the homes in the vicinity of a Musjid.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said that he intended to burn down the houses of those males who absent themselves from the Musjid and perform Salaat at home.  Were it not for the women and children, Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) would have burnt down such houses.

In a genuine Islamic state, males who absent themselves from Jamaat Salaat in the Musjid without valid Shar’i reason will be arrested, and if necessary, whipped.

(c) As for (c) above: What is the basis for this stupid spurious averment. In which Kitaab of the Shariah is this stupidity mentioned? Did the miscreant entity receive Wahi or Ilmaan from Allah Ta’ala for this ludicrous? There is absolutely no validity for this claim.

On the contrary, Allah Ta’ala will question and punish those Ulama who had aided the satanic cause of banning Salaat in the Musaajid and closing the Musaajid.  Such molvis and sheikhs are in reality agents of Iblees whose mission is the destruction of Islam. This miscreant entity which falsely avers to be a representative of the Ummah is also in the employ of Iblees to further his satanic mission.

Closure of Musaajid

(2) The miscreant entity alleges:

“The mufti in one of his clips goes so far as to state that those calling for the temporary ‘closure’ of the mosques are munafiques (hypocrites) ……With one stroke  of the pen, the learned Mufti  has virtually condemned, by implication, his fellow learned ulema of having excluded themselves from the fold.”

There is no need for relying on implication when stating the Haqq. Undoubtedly, those molvis who had closed the Musaajid and banned Salaat in the Musaajid are Munaafiqs and Murtads. Such vile molvis come fully within the purview of the Qur’aanic Aayat:

“Who is a greater zaalim (oppressor) than the one who prevents the Name of Allah from the Musaajid, and he strives in the ruin of the Musaajid?”

Remedy For Whispers (Waswaas) from Shaytaan

Shaytaan tries to trick us in different ways. When we speak about Waswasah (Satanic Whispers), we think it only happens to make us sin, and perpetrate something forbidden. Others think it’s to make our faith weak, yet many fail to realise that some are to destroy our lives. Hence, Waswasah happens:

To make us doubt our faith;

To make us doubt our acts of worship;

To make us sin;

To turn us against other believers;

To turn us against people who maintaining ties with will help us to keep our lives at an equilibrium (such as husband, relatives, in-laws);

To make us depressed, down, lonely, and to make us feel dejected;

To make us look silly and stupid;

To make us doubt ourselves, think low of ourselves, hurt ourselves;

To destroy our characters (making us argumentative, proud, haughty, stingy, jealous, etc.)

If a person falls into it trap, they will leave their lives in a state of chaos, lose their respect and peace of mind. So, the only option, O Muslim, is to battle these Waswaas as satan never wants good for us and wants to take the worse out of us. Also, remember that there are Shayaateen from both the humankind as well as the Jinn. In this article we will be predominantely be discussing the whispers of shaytaan, the Jinn:

وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

‘And if an evil whisper from shaytaan tries to turn you away (O Muhammad, from doing good), then seek refuge in Allaah. Indeed, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.’ (Qur’aan, 41: 36)

What this means is that if the shaytaan whispers to you, commanding you to reciprocate the harm that is done to you and to gain revenge, then seek refuge in Allaah (swt) from shaytaan’s evil whisperings. Unlike human beings, shaytaan does not change his stance or attitude when someone tries to treat him kindly; in his mind, the only way a person can win him over is by obeying his command to disobey Allaah (swt). Human beings, on the other hand, are open (at least in many cases) to being won over through kind acts of affection. This is why Islaam encourages Muslims to treat well those human beings who treat them badly. The shaytaan too treats Muslims badly, by ordering them to do evil, but the only way they can protect themselves from this harm is to seek refuge in Allaah (swt) from shaytaan’s evil. Throughout the Noble Qur’aan, a clear explanation is given regarding the reality of the relationship between man and shaytaan, mainly in terms of this world and how Muslims should go about protecting themselves from his evil. (Noble life of the Prophet, Vol.1, Pg. 263-264, Dr. Ali Muhammad As-Sallaabee)

If a Muslim suffers from the satanic whispers (waswasah, plural: waswaas), whether that’s against oneself, to cause self-inflicted harm or pain, whether about others, or to commit a sin and transgress the boundaries of Allaah, then s/he must try their utmost not to pay any attention to these whispers, and to ignore them, and to do the opposite of what they are calling you to do. For these whispers (waswaas) come from the Shaytan to cause grief to those who believe. The best way to deal with them is to remember Allaah a great deal (Dhikr), to seek refuge with Allaah from the accursed Shaytan, to keep away from sins and wrong actions which are the means by which Iblees gains control over the sons of Adam. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لَهُ سُلْطَانٌ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

“Verily, he [the Shaytaan] has no power over those who believe and put their trust only in their Lord (Allaah).” [An-Nahl 16:99]

It is worth quoting here what Ibn Hajar al-Haythami (may Allaah have mercy on him) said about dealing with waswasah in his book al-Fataawa al-Fiqhiyyah al-Kubra, 1/149. This is what he said:

“He was asked about the problem of waswasah (insinuating whispers from the Shaytan), and whether there is a remedy for it.  He replied by saying that:

There is an effective remedy for it, which is to ignore them completely, no matter how frequently they may come to mind. When these whispers are ignored, they do not become established, rather they go away after a short time, as many people have experienced. But for those who pay attention to them and act upon them, they increase until they make him like one who is insane or even worse, as we see among many of those who have suffered from them and paid attention to them and to the devil whose task it is to insinuate these whispers, whom the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned us against when he said, “Beware of the whispers with regard to water (i.e., wudoo/ablution) which is caused by a devil called Al-Walhaan” – because that causes a person to go to extremes with regard to doing Wudhoo’, as was explained in Sharh Mishkaat al-Anwaar.

In al-Saheehayn there is a report which supports what has been mentioned above, which is that whoever suffers from waswaas should seek refuge with Allaah and turn away from the waswaas. So think about this effective remedy which was taught by the one who does not speak of his own whims and desires to his Ummah (followers), and understand that whoever is deprived of this is deprived of all goodness, because waswasah comes from the Shaytan, according to scholarly consensus, and the accursed one (the Shaytan) has no other desire than to make the believers go astray, make them confused, make their life a misery, cause them distress to the extent that they leave Islam without realizing it.

“Surely, Shaytan (Satan) is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy” [Faatir 35:6 – interpretation of the meaning]

According to another Hadeeth (Prophetic Narration), the one who suffers from Waswasah should say, “Aamantu Billaahi wa bi rusulihi (I believe in Allaah and in His Messengers).” Undoubtedly, whoever thinks of the paths of the Messengers of Allaah, especially our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) will find that his path and his law is easy and clear, with no hardship in it.

وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ ۚ

“… and has not laid upon you in religion any hardship” [al-Hajj 22:78 – interpretation of the meaning]

Whoever ponders this and believes in it sincerely, the problem of Waswasah and listening to the Shaytaan will go away. In the book of Ibn al-Sunni it is narrated via ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her),

“Whoever suffers from this waswaas, let him say ‘Aamantu Billaahi wa bi rusulihi (I believe in Allaah and in His Messengers)’, three times, and it will go away from him.”

Al-‘Izz ibn ‘Abd al-Salam and others mentioned something similar to the above. They said:

The treatment for Waswasah is to believe that this is an idea from the Shaytaan and that Iblees is the one who is bringing these thoughts to his mind, and he should strive to fight him. Then he will have the reward of the Mujaahid (warrior), because he is fighting the enemy of Allaah. If he does that, then the Shaytaan will flee from him. This is what mankind has been tested with from the beginning of time, and Allaah has given him (Iblees) some power over man as a test for him, so that Allaah may show the truth to be true and falsehood to be false, even though the disbelievers may hate that.

In Muslim, Hadeeth no. 2203, it is narrated that ‘Uthman ibn Abi’l-‘Aas said: “The Shaytaan was interfering with my prayer and recitation of Qur’aan. He [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] said: ‘That is a devil called Khanzab, so seek refuge with Allaah from him and spit drily to your left three times.’ I did that, and Allaah took him away from me.”

This Hadeeth proves that Waswasah can only overpower the one who is ignorant and confused and does not know what’s what. But the one who has knowledge and understanding will follow the Sunnah (Prophetic Teachings) and keep away from Bid’ah (innovation). The worst of the innovators are those who follow Waswaas, hence Imaam Maalik (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated that his Shaykh Ar-Rabee’ (r) – who was the Imaam of the people of his time – was the fastest of the people in relieving himself and doing Wudhoo’.

Ibn Hurmuz used to be slow in relieving himself and in doing wudoo, and he used to say “I have a problem, do not follow my example.”

An-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said that one of the scholars thought it was Mustahabb (liked) for the one who was affected by Waswasah with regard to his Wudhoo’ or prayer to say Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, for when the Shaytaan hears Dhikr (remembrance of Allaah) he slinks away, and Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah is the best of Dhikr, and the most effective remedy for warding off waswasah is to remember Allaah a great deal.

Q. Please comment on Ruqiyah. Is it permissible to charge a fee for ruqiyah?

They charge about R400 per person. They are doing a roaring trade with Ruqiya.
A. This profession is not permissible. Writing Ta’weez and amaliyaat is permissible. But it is not permissible to make it a profession to earn money. These Raaqis (professional ruqiya performers) are bogus. They are mercenaries who take gross and haraam advantage of the ignorance of people to extravagate money from them. Just imagine R400 for a five minute job which in terms of the Shariah is not a valid job.
They coin tens of thousands of rands every month on account of the gross ignorance of people. They cite the Hadith to justify their extraction of money for their little salt and water potion on which they recite and blow. The episode in the Hadith does not pertain to professionalism. The Sahaabi who
had recited Surah Faatihah which cured the patient, was not a professional Raaqi. Ruqiyah was not his business for making money. A group of  the Sahaabah was on an expedition.
The gift of sheep was accepted. That is the be all of the incident.
The Sahaabi did not open a Ruqiyah shop. These currentday bogus raaqis are emulating the sangomas and other professional frauds who set up shop and advertise their fraudulent spiritual and magical powers for curing every sickness and every problem under the sun, but not a single problem is
solved/cured with the satanism they practice.
Stay far – very far from raaqis. They will drive you into paranoism. You will become mad with paranoia when entangled with raaqis.

Letter one

What is the status in the Shariah of Ruqyah as is being practised by a group who present themselves as experts in this science?

Can you please as a matter of urgency advise with regards to the Ruqya treatment that has taken the Cape and now KZN with a storm. Programs are held at Masaajid, etc., where they advise regarding treatment with Quranic Aayaat for removing of Jinn from people. Sometimes demonstrations are done in the Masjid.

To top it all programmes are held in the Masjid encouraging people to come for their treatment which comes with a cost. In our town the Imams have not allowed the programme at the Jamia Masjid. However Ml Hashim Gori has invited them, being a Mutawallee of Masjid-un-Noor. He is inclined to this Ruqyah venture, hence allowing them there.

If it is not compliant please advise the Ummah as a priority.
Letter two

Please advise on what is acceptable according to Shariah regarding Ruqyah? Ruqyah SA is hosting Sheikh Abder Rahman Ben Halima who is said to be a renowned ruqyah specialist.

He recently gave a talk and he emphasised that raqyah is only taken from Quraan and Sunnah. Having little to no knowledge about this subject, besides the Masnoon wazaaif like Aayatul Kursi, 3 Quls, etc, I am unsure as to what is Haqq and what is not.

Of the things he mentioned, he spoke about the ‘phenomenon’ of reversing jinn catching. I’m not sure I understood exactly what he was explaining.

His wife is the ‘bait’ that catches the Jinnaat. Then wazeefahs are read after which the jinn can take Shahaadah or die.
If possible, can Molana please outline what is the Shar’i limits of ruqyah.

While Ruqyah (Ta’weez, etc.) is permissible, the group of so-called ruqyah ‘specialists” is a baatil group which should not be touched with a bargepole. These ruqyah characters are liable to drive you into paranoia with their jinn and ‘gin’ talk. It is indeed lamentable that these chaps are allowed to misuse the Musaajid for marketing their baseless ‘ruqyah’ wares.

Their objective is purely monetary gain. Their ruqyah business is HARAAM. They are selling and misusing the Qur’aan Majeed for the miserable, cheap gain of the dunya. They are bartering away their Deen for the dunya.

Their jinn-catching stunts, even if assumed to be true, are HARAAM. While there are amaliyaat for subjugating, enslaving and controlling jinn, these are HARAAM. Jinn, like Insaan (the human being) is azaad (free). Jinn are not animals which may be trapped, eaten, encaged, etc. They are intelligent, free beings. They are Muslims and kuffaar. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) had gone to the abode of the Jinn specially to present Islam to them. Innumerable Jinn are Muslims, and there are still Sahaabah Jinn alive today.

It is HARAAM to subjugate a Jinn and to utilize him for any purpose whatsoever, even for reciting the Qur’aan Majeed. The act of using his wife as bait by the ruqyah character, is despicably HARAAM. This man has no shame. If he does have the ability to subjugate Jinn, then know that his baiting act with his wife as the ‘prawn’ of the hook, is immoral and HARAAM. It is tantamount to zina. If he genuinely is able to catch a jinn, then it is HARAAM to compel the kaafir jinn to recite the Kalimah. The Qur’aan Majeed states: “There is no compulsion in Deen.”

Indeed this ruqyah character is ignorant. He fails to understand, that a non-Muslim declaring the Shahaadat with the gun at his head, is not a true Muslim. If the Jinn is given the choice of Islam or death, and he submits to the former, he remains a kaafir because his Shahaadat is not by a voluntary expression of Imaan.

In our book, SIHR, we have explained the Shariah limits for the permissibility of Ruqyah. The book is available from us.

It is essential for Muslims to remain far from this money-coining clique. Just imagine! They charge R400 or more for a charade diagnosis and some laughable ‘ruqyah’ artefacts consisting of a small bottle of olive oil, senna leaves and some salt. The parcel is worth about R20. This is their standard medicine for all cases of imagined magic and jinn-afflictions.

Whether a person suffers from a headache or has marital problems, financial problems, haraam-love problems, etc., etc., it is always the effect of magic according to these chaps. Muslims are required to employ their brains and to seek the Shariahs’s ruling from the Ulama-e-Haqq because plunging headlong in a venture or in a morass of weird stunts is Imaani destruction.

Sure signs of the bogus nature of such people who claim to operate mysteriously are: (1) They enlist the aid of jinn, and (2) The boodle. They are out to become millionaires overnight.
They attend to thousands of people all over the world 12 months of the year. The boodle flows into their coffers like water because people are just too stupid due to Imaani deficiencies, hence they are ensnared into baatil with the greatest ease by such stunters.

It is necessary for the safety and well-being of Muslims that the Ulama proffer guidance to the morons in our community who allow themselves to be sucked for money. Do not be fooled by their employment of the Qur’aan Majeed. This is merely to impress the gullible community. Remember, that even kuffaar Jinn will be reciting the Qur’aan to mislead and misguide Muslims. Some of these ruqyah people perform weird shaitaani stunts with wazeefahs of Durood Shareef and Qur’aanic aayaat. In their weird and bizarre stunts, they acquire shaitaani assistance. May Allah Ta’ala save us all from their shaitaani depredations.

Adopt and adhere to the masnoon recitations of Ruqyah, and have yaqeen. Make Dua. But remember that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said:

“Whatever is by Allah is attainable by means of only obedience.”

Therefore, morally reform yourself and seek Allah’s aid. Be patient in trials. All trials are almost always the consequences of our sins. Increase Istighfaar and Thikrullaah. This is the best Ruqyah.
