Pakistan’s Transgender Bill: How Liberalism Is Being Forced Onto Muslim Society

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi, 2784)

Pakistan is one of the Muslim countries that is currently undergoing the process of modernization. Despite this, Pakistani Muslims have proven to be very firm in their opposition to ideological attacks by shady and heavily funded liberal organizations. So much so in fact, that these degenerate forces have had to resort to extremely underhanded tactics in order to infiltrate our community.

And it is the recent controversy surrounding the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act in Pakistan that has been most effective in exposing these tactics.

There’s been a lot of confusion regarding this topic, with a number of people being completely unaware about what exactly is going on. In fact, all of this confusion has been generated by the very same shady groups which control mainstream media. They spread confusion with the express reason of keeping us distracted while they further their goals.

Since this is the case, let us first examine what the actual situation is:

The Senate will take up the Intersex Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill 2022, which aims to make changes in the existing Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act 2018, on Monday (September 26).

The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act [Download PDF] was drafted and passed four years ago, back in 2018. The bill included changes that are diametrically opposed to the teachings and values of Islam, in effect threatening to actually legalize homosexuality within the country (this will be discussed in more detail shortly). The bill was drafted by mysterious ‘international experts’ and was passed quite hastily by the National Assembly and Senate.

Curiously enough, not a single mainstream political party representative at the time had stood in opposition to this bill.

Most of the general public wasn’t even aware of any of this. That is, until this year when Islamic groups such as Jamat-e-Islami pointed out how dangerous it is. It had been protested against ever since its inception. However, recently Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamat-e-Islami has formally filed for necessary amendments to this bill in order to keep it in line with Islam, and he even challenged it in the Federal Shariat Court (FSC). These amendments are known as the Intersex Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill 2022 and are yet to legally be passed into law. It is these proposed amendments that have SJWs and trans-activists screeching and seething in the streets of Pakistan.

Several Muslim politicians are now condemning this bill, stating that they had previously been unaware of its implications. One such individual is Senator Mohsin Aziz, a representative for PTI:

During the Senate session today, Senator Mohsin Aziz voiced his reservations with the legislation, saying he was now regretting not opposing the bill when it was introduced and approved in 2018.

“There is a difference between transgender and intersex … we should beg pardon from Allah,” the senator said, adding that transgender persons are not eunuchs (khawaja sira).

Aziz said the amendment should be made to the law “as soon as possible”, warning “the more the delay, the greater the wrath of Allah”.

Transgender vs. Intersex

In order to introduce filth into a society that will not tolerate it (such as Muslims), liberal groups employ the use of ambiguity. They choose to take the path most shrouded in ignorance and confusion, and they use this to gradually manipulate societies into becoming more degenerate and godless.

In this specific case, they took advantage of the ambiguity surrounding the terms transgender and intersex. Several terms are used in Urdu to describe people with ambiguous sexual characteristics, such as Khunsa, Mukhannas, and Khwaja Sira. The latter (Khwaja Sira) was used during the Mughal era to denote castrated males (eunuchs) who would serve as guards. Today however, in Pakistan, it is used interchangeably to describe intersex and transgender people that are part of a mafia of beggars and prostitutes. It is this group that primarily makes up the body of trans/intersex people within the country. They can be witnessed in the streets of modern cities (such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi) where such Fahishah is relatively more common (albeit still far less common than anything observed in Western countries).

Now, you may have noticed my classing of ‘intersex’ and ‘transgender’ as being part of the same group, and this is precisely where the pre-existing problem lies.

RELATED: Transgender Muslims in the Subcontinent? Making Sense of Hijras

Intersex people are those who are born with ambiguous sexual genitals and characteristics, but can still be classified as being one specific gender. Their sex is officially assigned very early on depending on a number of factors.

Transgender people, however, are those who imitate the opposite sex, either due to mental illness or for money (through begging and prostitution mafias). This latter group is unfortunately quite rampant within Pakistan, and the problem is that the general public makes very little distinction between intersex and transgender.

If you download the PDF linked above, you can see that in Section 2 (n) of the original bill, a ‘Transgender Person’ has been defined as:

“Transgender Person” is a person who is :-

(i) Intersex (Khunsa) with mixture of male and female genital features or congenital ambiguities, or

(ii) Eunuch assigned male at birth, but undergoes genital excision or castration; or

(iii) a Transgender Man, Transgender Woman, Khawaja sira or any person whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from the social norms and cultural expectations based on the sex they were assigned at the time of their birth.

As you can see, these liberal powers have deviously placed intersex and transgender people, interchangeably, under the same umbrella. This is in order to manipulate sympathy towards those who were created by Allah in a certain way and twist it into sympathy for degenerates who imitate the opposite sex. And what does this accomplish?

Section 3 of the act states:

(1) A transgender person shall have a right to be recognized as per his or her self-perceived gender identity, as such, in accordance with the provisions of this Act.

(2) A person recognized as transgender under sub-section (1) shall have a right to get himself or herself registered as per self-perceived gender identity with all government departments including, but not limited to NADRA.

Thus, men and women can legally become recognized as being from the opposite gender!

NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) is the branch of the Ministry of Interior which makes and provides people with their CNICs (Computerized National Identity Cards). In addition to ID cards, it goes on to also include the person’s driving license and even passport as subject to change. What this means is that if a man were to decide he wants to change his gender to female, he would legally have to be treated as a woman. And because of this, ‘she’ can now legally marry a man and not be considered a homosexual. And thus homosexuality becomes ‘legal’ in a Muslim country.

Homosexuality is explicitly illegal in Pakistan by law. Section 377 of the PPC (Pakistan Penal Code) states:

Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than two years nor more than ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.

Furthermore, Article 277 of the Pakistan Constitution states that:

1) All existing laws shall be brought in conformity with the Injunctions of Islam as laid down in the Holy Quran and Sunnah, in this Part referred to as the Injunctions of Islam, and no law shall be enacted which is repugnant to such injunctions.

It’s extremely strange that, despite these clear pre-existing laws which are diametrically opposed to it, the Transgender Act was still passed.

But that’s not all. It doesn’t simply stop at legalizing homosexuality. The Transgender Act goes on to state, under Section 4, that all forms of discrimination against transgenders is prohibited, and they must not face any form of ‘denial’ when it comes to employment, educational institutions, healthcare services, transport, etc. And then, under Section 5, it goes on to prohibit all forms of harassment as well. It seems like these trans people might now actually have more rights than regular citizens.

While Section 3 legalizes homosexuality, Section 4 and 5 serve to make the situation significantly worse. Since they can’t be refused access to certain places based on their ‘self-perceived gender,’ they can enter places which are meant exclusively for the opposite gender. Due to this, there was a truly bizarre incident which occurred on August 23, 2020. A transwoman (biological man) applied for the job of a lecturer at an academic institution…under the female category. This meant that he would be in the midst of hundreds of women, both teachers and young students—inappropriately interacting with them; staring at them; and doing God knows what else, on a daily basis. These Muslim women would be made to bear this, day in, day out. Naturally, his application was rejected, but this trans used the Transgender Act to take the matter all the way to the Lahore High Court, where it came to be known as FAIZ ULLAH VS. P.P.S.C AND ORS, and unfortunately the following decision was made:

The counsels appearing for the respondents told the Court that they were ready to concede and allow the Petitioner to take part in the recruitment process under the Lecturer (Female) category. On this basis, the Court set aside the order that rejected the Petitioner’s application and held that she will be allowed to participate in the recruitment process.

I mean, what could they do? Dispute the law in court? Think about just how bad it could get if this act was utilized by degenerates to the full extent possible. Men would be able to enter female prayer areas, perform Wudu next to them, even go to female doctors and request check-ups.

What if a male convict claimed to be a transgender in order to be placed into a female prison? And by the way, this is something that has already occurred in the West.

Liberal and anti-Islamic outlets and politicians have rejected outright the notion that this act can be used as a loophole to legalize homosexuality:

Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar on Thursday rejected criticism over the Transgender Persons (Protection of Right) Act, saying that “some friends” had created a misconception that the law had opened doors for homosexuality and was repugnant to Islamic injunctions.

But the sad reality is that this act has been already been utilized for this very reason, and the undeniable proof of this exists in the form of a legal homosexual marriage that took place in Taxila, Pakistan not too long ago. A female teacher named Asma Bibi groomed one of her students, Neha Ali, then legally switched her own gender to male and changed her name to Akash Ali on her CNIC, thus allowing her to ‘legally’ marry this student.

This lesbian marriage started trending on social media, upon which the father filed against it in Rawalpindi High Court. Subsequently, Akash Ali legally reverted to being female and disappeared.

It is shocking to even consider how this incident didn’t occur in a liberal country, but one where the majority of Muslims still strive to uphold Islamic and traditional values.

And this brings me to the silver lining. I was extremely happy to see the response of Muslims towards this degenerate law, both inside and outside Pakistan, both online and offline. Alhamdulillah, the Muslim youth especially took to defending Islam and condemning this Transgender Act very strongly. So, not only did this act expose how liberals use ambiguity to attack Islamic values, but it also brought to the fore the frustration within young Muslims against our enemies. The line between truth and falsehood has become vividly clear. The minority of Muslims in Pakistan who have been indoctrinated into adopting liberal secular values are just that: a minority, albeit a very vocal one and one that utilizes the online space very aggressively to further their ideologies.

And one of those online spaces is YouTube. Liberal Pakistani Youtubers have made it their mission to make liberalism look like the only saving grace for the ‘oppressive’ and ‘backwards’ Muslim lifestyle. They paint this picture of Islam being the reason behind all the problems that, in actuality, modernization has brought about. And of course they’re not brave enough to say it outright, otherwise Muslims would cancel them in a heartbeat. They simply insinuate it, deceptively sugarcoating their words. One of these Youtubers is Mooroo, who has a million subscribers at the time of this article being written. And, related to the subject of this article, he even had a trans on his podcast. But again, the video’s comment section reveals that Muslims are becoming more and more aware of these ideological attacks, and they won’t be tricked into accepting such values. Many of the comments rightfully call out the filth and degeneracy in the video. This often happens, where liberal groups strongly underestimate just how much degeneracy they can smuggle into Muslim societies without suffering severe backlash.

But when it comes to the Transgender Act, it simply boggles the mind as to how a Muslim government can cater and provide protection to a group of people that have been expressly cursed by our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself. Muslims should continue speaking against it and protesting. I would even go as far as to say we should vocalize our concerns even more aggressively now and not allow a single iota of ground to be further lost, lest our society further sinks to new lows.

May Allah protect us from such a fate and grant us victory over our manifest enemies. Amin.

WEST DESTROYING BOSNIA

THE WEST DESTROYING BOSNIA WITH HOMOSEXUALITY AND LGBTIQ PERVERSITY

ISLAMIC RESPONSE TO HOMOSEXUALITY IN PUBLIC

By Amir Telibecrovic

If some population, country, community, state or even city, goes through devastating war with a lot dead victims and a lot of refugees displaced out of such a country, plus with genocide on top of that, what would be the natural response after the war and genocide from the nation? Improving a birth rate probably, encouraging more children to be born if possible, raising awareness of the importance of the nation growth, recovering community. In popular English terminology it would be promotion and encouragement of the ‘baby boom.’

Bosnia is a country like that. Less than three decades ago, it went through the imposed war and genocide. Still, birth rate recovery was going slowly after the war, due to economic difficulties and also the fact many people left a country. In some parts of the country, there was a post-war ‘baby boom,’ shortly, but in general, whole population needs more encouragement in this field. But today, public promotion of something opposite is going on.

Registered homosexual movements and organizations in Bosnia, are gaining more social and political rights than young parents who are waiting for their babies, or just planning to start a new family. Political elites among the Bosniaks have already approved LGBTIQ public parade back in 2019, on the streets of Sarajevo. Recently, this year, second street parade of the homosexuals in the Bosnian capital was approved and held. In both cases, parade was sponsored and financed from the outside of the country, yet, besides that support, this time new political establishment in Sarajevo also donated significant amount of funds for the organization of parade. Such a funds could have been incentive for the young parents but instead, it was given for something opposite. Three years ago, some Bosnian politicians, who are nominally Muslims, approved a law (not adopted officially yet, but it’s on the way), which would enable homosexual couples to get married legally, and based on that to adopt a child one day. Does this sounds like promotion and encouragement of the birth rate in the country and nation which needs it badly? Of course it is opposite from the birth rate.

Current US ambassador to Bosnia, Eric Nelson, claim publically for himself to be gay person, although it was supposed to his private matter. Interestingly, he was nominated to this position during the administration of Donald Trump. Yet, it is believed that Trump was mainly supported by the right wing Americans who are “traditionally” against homosexuals. Obviously, things in the international diplomacy are more complex than that. So, US ambassador Eric Nelson for couple of years was openly spreading campaign in support of gay movements of Bosnia. Few times in previous two years, a huge rainbow flag was hanging from the roof of the US embassy in Sarajevo, Muslim majority city. By now, even those who are not into this topic, knows that rainbow flag is officially adopted to be international homosexual flag. Ambassador Nelson even joined gay parade when they were marching the streets, same as British and some more international diplomats working in Bosnia. Enormously big police protection was set for the parade, with snipers watching from the buildings. It felt like Sarajevo was under siege again. It all gave impression like gay people are threatened or endangered so they need the biggest possible police protection.

Yes, there have been verbal threats and few physical attacks on some them in the past, but not more than in other regional countries and not in organized way but by some individuals and football hooligans. But state and politics is supporting them, administration and bureaucracy, including foreign sponsors, are on the side of the LGBTIQ movement, and vast majority of the local media. All Bosnian mainstream media are supporting homosexual movements.

Silent Ulama

There are other categories in Bosnia which are more endangered, like refugees, immigrants, Muslims in the remote parts of the Serb nationalist dominated or Croat dominated areas of the country, a lot of unemployed people, mine workers, Roma Gypsy population, disabled veterans from the 1990s aggression on the country, peasants, industry workers, but they don’t get even one fourth of support, public attention or help as gay people, either internationally or locally.

Sarajevo is Muslim majority city, so open reactions to the public promotion of the homosexuality is expected by believers, scholars, ulama, muftis, but no, reaction was soft and mostly online by some individual imams. Bosnian grand mufti remained silent to this too. Second gay parade in Sarajevo, which happened recently, was passing literally next to one of the local mosques at the time of dhuhr adhan call to prayer. Noise was made by parade so the adhan was turned on louder from the minaret. Yet, no reactions from the local worshippers. Just when it seemed nobody would react to this injustice and public immorality, small political movement gave some hope at least. Counter parade was organized by the independent Bosnian Islamic and patriotic party called BNS-V.N.D. (Faith, People, Country/State). Movement gathered around two hundred people and marched the streets of Sarajevo the same day when homosexual parade was marching, but through different parts of the city.- https://saff.ba/u-sarajevu-odrzan-protest-ponosa-i-casti/

Large amount of police secured these two groups would not meet on the streets. Leader of the V.N.D. party, theology professor and writer Sanin Musa, invited everybody to join, and some passersby citizens did, as they walked. V.N.D. waived with old Bosnian flags, with banners holding messages about Islamic morality, justice and logic, and members of the party and movement invited everybody, regardless of their faith, to join them, because when children are endangered it matters to everybody, not only Muslims. There was no a single incident, V.N.D. was walking the streets of Sarajevo peacefully, and in front of local media, invited homosexuals to tawba, without judging them, just warning them based on the Qur’anic chapter about Lut a.s.-

Temporary sponsors?

At the same time, Sanin Musa was emphasizing on this protest that nobody cares about anybody’s private sexual preferences, as long as they are kept personal and private, but they are against public presentation or even celebration of anybody’s intimacy, especially homosexuality. Let alone this is happening in a country which is still recovering from genocide. Defenders of the public promotion of homosexuality are usually repeating how it is demanded, even dictated, from the EU (although Bosnia is not EU member). Musa was telling them it is demanded by the same EU bureaucracy who was watching devastation of Bosnia for four years, allowing ethnic cleansing and not allowing Bosnia to defend and protect itself less than 30 years ago. Local secular mainstream media was traditionally criticizing almost any public reaction or statement against public homosexuality and legalization of gay marriages.

Their journalists were ready to label V.N.D. with usual banal terminology like “extremists” or “homophobes” or “haters” or “Islamists” but in this case they remained confused. Sanin Musa and people around him acted civilized at this counter-protests, not insulting anyone, not making any incidents, inviting everyone for peaceful demonstrating, reasonably inviting LGBTIQ organizations to give up on parades, explaining them why, friendly inviting them to do something more useful instead of marching, to be aware of the consequences of their actions etc… Yet, no answer nor comment came from any of the homosexual organizations. They are in a stage when they feel a bit arrogant, maybe even superior to others because mighty US embassy is behind them, powerful European Union stands for them, local politics too. For how long, nobody was mentioning. Like those who are frantically trying to leave Afganistan currently, wondering how come US is not standing behind them anymore. Maybe LGBTIQ have put too much trust to the wrong sponsors. It’s never too late for the honest tawba.

Homosexuality & Lesbianism in Islam

In this materialistic age when everything is being sacrificed at the altar of ‘freedom’, the world, from east to west, is witnessing a total collapse of morality and decency. Virtue is portrayed as evil while sins of every type are being glamourized so as to seem acceptable to society. Honesty, fidelity, generosity, piety, chastity, the fear of Allah, etc. are rarely looked upon as praiseworthy qualities while adultery, gambling, fraud, usury, cheating, abortion, homosexuality, lesbianism, etc. are fast becoming the order of the day. In many of the so-called democracies, there is no longer any stigma in even committing sins openly because of the many corrupt laws that support such sins. In fact today, in some of the world’s biggest “democracies” the more a leader publicizes his immoral and adulterous exploits, the more his popularity seems to increase and the greater become his chances of being re-elected by the people. But the saddest part of this is that while the Muslims were supposed to lead the world out of this turmoil and offer it Islam as the only solution to its problems, they have begun to embrace the bankrupt ways of those who are themselves groping in the darkness of ignorance. Unfortunately many of the abominable practices found in the west and other kuffaar societies are creeping into Muslim societies. May Allah protect us!

It is time for the Muslim ummah to awaken from its slumber and realize that it is the duty of every Muslim to remind the whole of mankind that success lies only in fulfilling the orders of Allah in the way shown by our Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

This article, based on a pamphlet that was distributed in Shawwaal 1415 by the General Presidency, Dept. of the Promotion of virtue and the Prevention of vice, Saudi Arabia, discusses the issue of homosexuality and lesbianism in Islam. Although the masculine gender has been used in this article, it applies generally to both males and females alike.

THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH YOU, MY DEAR BROTHER, THE MUSLIM YOUTH

My Respected Brother-in-Islam
Assalaamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh

In the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and in keeping with the Sunnah of our Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) who has said, ‘None of you has Imaan (Faith) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself’, please allow me to offer to you the following words of advice:

Every true believer living in this world fears the wrath and punishment of Allah Ta’ala. Are you safe, O my brother, from the punishment of Allah Ta’ ala? The question each one of us has to ask himself is: Would you like to be amongst those who will be punished tomorrow, on the Day in which neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit except to that person who appears before Allah with a pure heart? Would you be happy if your soul were reduced to the lowest position after Allah had created it in the best of forms? Would you allow myself to be disgraced in front of the whole of mankind and the entire creation on the Day of Qiyaamah (Reckoning)? Certainly you would not like any of this to happen to you!

Please let me share with you some brotherly advice regarding just one evil that has become so widespread today – especially amongst the youth. I know that there may be many questions roving in your mind regarding this evil:

What is this sin?

Is it so grave that we should discuss it?

What is the solution to it?

How can we save ourselves from it?

What are the harms and consequences of it?

Do not be too hasty for soon you will find answers to all your questions.

My Beloved Brother! You are certainly aware that the sin of homosexuality is haraam. But do you know how serious this crime is and just how despicable it is in the sight of Allah Ta’ala? Just imagine, my brother, that when it is against the very nature of man, nay even of animals, what is the position of the person who indulges in it! Is such a person unaware that Allah Ta’ala — in all His Grandeur, Might and Power — is watching him while he indulges in this haraam act? Is he not aware that Allah Ta’ala has the power to send down upon him a swift and severe punishment or even seize him while he is involved in it? What will his position be when he appears before his Rabb (Sustainer) on the Day of Qiyaamah?

“And such is the grasp of your Rabb when He seizes a community while it transgresses! Certainly His grasp is very painful.” (Surah Hood, ayah 102)

Let us now look at a few verses of the Qur’an, Ahaadith, narrations of the Sahaabah (radhiallaahu anhum) and sayings and verdicts of the Ulama regarding the sin of homosexuality or sodomy. Thereafter, let us see what are some of the diseases that spread as a result of it as well as some solutions. May Allah Ta’ala grant us the ability to follow His guidance and the Sunnah of His Beloved Nabi Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

BEWARE!

Our beloved Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, ‘Certainly the thing I fear most on my ummah is the (wicked) practice of the people of Loot.’ (Tirmizi, Ahmad, Ibn Hajr Al-Haysami, Ad-Duri and Al-Aajuri) (Hadith Hasan)

Hadrat Ali bin Abi Taalib (RA) relates, ‘Whoever allows himself to be used sexually (by becoming a homosexual or sodomite), Allah Ta’ala will expel from him the (natural) desire for women.‘

Najeeb As-Sirri (AR) says, ‘They (i.e. our pious elders) would even dislike looking at handsome young boys’.

Once Abul Aswad (AR) brought a letter which he showed to one of his students and said, ‘I bear witness that this letter was dictated by Ali bin Abi Taalib (RA) to Abul Aswad: When men (i.e. homosexuals) will sexually satisfy themselves with men and women (i.e. lesbians) with women, then earthquakes will occur, faces will become transformed and stones will rain down from the skies.’

Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has also said “May Allah curse him who does what the people of Loot (alayhis salaam) did.” (Ibn Hibbaan)

He (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has also said, “Lesbianism by women is adultery between them.” (Tabraani)

A LESSON FROM HISTORY

It is a well-known fact that when this wretched disease spread among one nation in the past, Allah Ta’ala caused punishments to rain down from the skies upon them. Allah mentions their story in many places in the Qur’an. At one place, He says,

“And (We also sent) Loot (as a Messenger). ‘Behold, he said to his people, do you do what is shameful even though you see (that it is wrong)? Would you really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, you are a grossly ignorant people!’

But his people gave no other answer but this: They said, ‘Drive out the followers of Loot from your city. These are indeed men who want to be clean and pure!’

But We saved him and His family except his wife: We destined her to be of those who lagged behind.

And We rained down on them a shower (of stones). And evil was the shower on those who were admonished (but failed to heed).” (Surah an-Naml, 54-58)

At yet another place, Allah Most High says: Do you approach the males of humanity, leaving the wives Allah has created for you? But you are a people who transgress. (Surah ash-Shu’raa: 165 &166)

From the first aayah, we learn that these people had themselves admitted that the family of Loot (AS) who had Imaan (belief in Allah) was decent, chaste and morally pure. They also acknowledged that the family of Loot (AS) refrained from this filthy practice. They realised this since it is natural for every person to immediately recognise the pure way of life inspired by Allah Ta’ala when they see it and also to make out any type of unnatural and perverted behaviour.

In the Tafseer (commentary) of these verses it is mentioned that the people of Loot (AS) were practicing both homosexuality and lesbianism. When Allah decided to punish them, He commanded Jibraeel (AS) to lift the village of Loot (AS) to the extent that the angels of the first heaven (sky) could actually hear the barking of their dogs. Jibraeel then turned them over and dropped them from this tremendous height. Thereafter, Allah Ta’ala caused scorching hot stones to rain down upon them. This is how this nation ended up being an example for the rest of mankind until the Day of Qiyaamah.

Imaam Al-Aajuri (AR) has said, ‘Allah Ta’ala has informed you about the despicable act of homosexuality committed by the people of Loot (AS) and how He punished them by first snatching away their eyesight. Jibraeel (AS) was then instructed to uproot their cities with all the inhabitants until they were high up into the sky and then turn over their cities upon them. Thereafter they were pelted with stones of clay.’ Such was their punishment that not a single citizen or traveller could save himself from the stones and from being completely destroyed.

It is said that they were four million in number. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer p.471 vol. 2)

Let us reflect! Why did Allah Ta’ala punish them so severely in such a manner that He had never punished any other nation before? Surely their sin must have been really serious for Allah Ta’ala to have punished and destroyed them in this way.

DISGRACE IN THIS WORLD

The acts of homosexuality and lesbianism are certainly a perversion and a serious deviation from the inherent nature of man. These acts of defiance against human nature are also even viler and uglier than adultery. There is consensus among both Muslims and the followers of other religions that lesbianism and homosexuality are evil and filthy practices. This is why it is not surprising to find that Islam so vehemently prohibits it and adopts such a harsh attitude against it.

The punishment awaiting such people in the Hereafter has already been explained, but what about their punishment in this world?

Since such type of behaviour was previously totally unknown to the Arab people, there is no record of any such incident having occurred during the time of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) or that he was faced with a case of this nature. However, it has been confirmed that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said,

“Kill the one who sodomizes and the one to who lets it be done to him.” (Tirmizi)

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (RA) had passed such a ruling and Hadrat Ali (RA) was very severe in his ruling against such a crime. It is established that once Sayyiduna Khaalid bin Waleed (RA) found a man in the frontiers of Arabia marrying another man in the way a woman marries a man, so he wrote about it to Abu Bakr (RA). When Abu Bakr (RA) consulted with the Sahaabah, Ali (RA) who was the severest in his condemnation of it said, ‘Only one out of the many nations had indulged in it and you all know how Allah Ta’ala had dealt with them. I feel that he should be destroyed by fire.’ So Abu Bakr (RA) wrote back to Sayyiduna Khaalid (RA) who then put the man to death by means of fire.

Ibn Qassaar and Ibn Taymiyyah (AR) have said: All the Sahaabah (radhiallaahu anhum) were unanimous that he should be killed though some of them differed in the manner in which it should be done.

Abu Bakr (RA) said that he should be executed by being thrown from a great height.

Another view of Hadrat Ali (RA) was that a wall should be dropped upon him.

Hadrat Ibn Abbaas, Ali, Jaabir bin Zaid, Abdullah bin Mamar, Imaam Zuhri and Imaam Maalik (radhiallaahu anhum) have said that those who commit the evil deed of the people of Loot (AS) should be stoned to death, whether they be married or unmarried. This is also one of the narrations of Imaams Ahmad, Shaafiee and Abu Sawr (AR).

Hadrat Ibn Abbaas (RA) was once asked about the punishment for the homosexual. He replied, “He should be taken to the top of the highest building in the town and thrown headlong from there. Then he should be pelted with stones.”

Jaabir bin Zaid used to say, “The prohibitive decree of the anus is far more serious than the prohibitive decree of the vagina.” In other words, the prohibition against anal intercourse is far more severe than the prohibition against illegitimate sexual intercourse (with a woman).

ITS DANGERS IN THIS WORLD

Among the evil consequences of this sin are the many deadly and contagious diseases that result from it. Some of these illnesses are such that medical science — with all its might, power and advanced technology – has failed to combat or even fully comprehend, let alone cure it. Certainly no one is able to rise above the Will of Allah Ta’ala and escape His wrath!

Some of these fatal diseases are:

AIDS: There is no cure for it. It is contracted and spread through unlawful sexual intercourse and perverted sexual acts like homosexuality.

GONORRHEA: which causes inflammation of the testicles, blockage of the urethra, inflammation of the joints and sterility.

SYPHILIS: This is a type of venereal disease commonly known among the Arabs as ‘the English Disease’ since its origin lies in European societies where free intermingling of the sexes and immorality is rife. It results in insanity, paralysis, blindness, and other nerve disorders. Also leads to blood vessel damage and death.

GENITAL ULCERS: which causes inflammation of the lymphatic glands. It also gives rise to chronic festering of tumours, inflammation of the urethra, severe pain in the joints and swelling of the limbs.

HEPATITIS B: Its symptoms include fever, fatigue, nausea and jaundice. It results in chronic hepatitis or liver cancer.

These are only a few of the many deadly diseases caused by perverted sexual behaviour. Could anyone ever desire contracting any of them?

May Allah Ta’ala protect all of us from all types of evil!

THE WAY TO SALVATION!

My Beloved Brother! Practicing on complete Islam is certainly the key to our success in this world and the Hereafter. Islam has provided us with the solution to problems in every sphere of our lives. Without doubt, the road to saving ourselves is simple and as clear as daylight — and it is to keep ourselves far away from this grievous sin.

The following are some means that will help you to do this:

Do towbah (i.e. repent sincerely) to Allah and turn to Him.

Stay away from the company of evil people or friends who glamorize and glorify those deeds and things that are sinful and make them appeal to you. The company that the youth keep plays the greatest role in either reforming or corrupting them. Therefore, choose for yourself the company of righteous people who will be of help and benefit to you in the matters of your Deen (Religion) and your dunya (worldly affairs).

Turn yourself and your gaze away from all those things that arouse the passions, like looking at and staying in the company of beardless, young lads or even pictures of them of which films, magazines, etc are brimming.

Make every effort to get married in order to remain pure and chaste and respond to the call of our beloved Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) who has said, “O Assembly of Youth! Those of you who have the means to get married, should do so. And whoever is unable to do so, must keep fast. For this is certainly a protection for him.” (Bukhaari, Muslim)

Fast in abundance in order to suppress the carnal desires/passions. Our Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) has said, “Certainly shaitaan flows in (the body of) man like the flowing of blood. So, subdue him by keeping fast.” (Sahih Bukhaari: vol.1 p.273 Book of Fasting)

Spend your spare time in those activities that will benefit you because the mind of an idle person becomes the target of sinful thoughts whispered by shaitaan and your nafs (the self which commands a person to do evil).

AND FINALLY.MY DEAR BROTHER!

What is the person who indulges in this evil waiting for? Is he waiting for the moment when death will suddenly overtake him while he is busy committing this sin? Has he given any thought to the condition of his father who had worked so hard to earn a living in order to bring him up and to see to his needs? How proud his father used to be of him, when he was a little boy, whenever he attended any gatherings! Has he thought about the condition of his mother who spent long, restless nights awake for the sake of his comfort? Is he now going to repay them with shame and disgrace them in front of everyone?

Or, is he waiting for death to overtake him while he is in the act of this despicable sin? Death certainly does not fix a time with us nor does it postpone its arrival for anyone, whether young or old!

My dear brother, this precious life is a special gift from our Beloved Creator, Allah, to us so that we may perform virtuous deeds and gain His pleasure. In fact, the principal motive behind everything that we do should be the pleasure of Allah — and this is the real meaning of success. Allah tells us:

“But the pleasure of Allah is the highest achievement: This is the greatest success.” (Surah at-Tawbah: 72)

Our life in this world is also a test from Allah. He has placed us in this world and created certain desires within us. But He has not made this world the place for the fulfillment of our desires. Here, we must fill our hearts with the fear of Allah and suppress our own desires and give priority to the wishes and orders of Allah over our own desires. In return for this, our Allah has promised to reward us with Jannah, the everlasting place of indescribable beauty and happiness that He has reserved for us in the Aakhirah.

“And for them who had feared standing before their Rabb (Sustainer) (on the Day of Qiyaamah) and had restrained (their) soul from lower desires,

Certainly Jannah will be their abode. (Surah an- Naazi’aat: 40,41)

And since Jannah has been created as the actual place for the satisfaction of all our desires, everything there will be according to our wishes. Allah promises:

“Therein shall you have all that your souls shall desire; therein shall you have all that you ask for! A hospitable gift from One Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful!” (Surah Fussilat: 31,32)

In conclusion, my dear brothers and sisters, I hope I have been able to illustrate clearly, yet briefly, the Islamic view regarding this sin and some of its harms so that it may serve as an eye-opener for those not involved in it and a means of earnestly repenting to Allah Ta’ala for those who have fallen into the trap of shaitaan.

It is now your duty, my beloved brothers and sisters, to inform each and every person of the sinfulness of this vice and its dangers and earn abundant reward from Allah Ta’ala.

I ask Allah, the All-Mighty, the All-Powerful to grant all of us the ability to turn to Him in repentance, and to make what I have written and you have read, a witness in our favour and not against us.

For Allah alone grants the Muslims the ability to do what is beneficial for them.

Qur’an on Homosexuality: Setting the Record Straight

By Khalid Baig

In the post colonial world the “civilizing mission” continues and the crusade for civilizing the backward Muslims into embracing the sexual mores of the civilizers is going full speed ahead. Since openly declaring that the Qur’an and Islam are plain wrong does not get you much mileage with the target audience, their challenge is how to perform a perfect inversion of Qur’anic teachings and simultaneously assure everyone that this inversion is in harmony with one’s belief in the Qur’an. Consider homosexuality. The Qur’an condemns it in no uncertain terms and calls those who committed it as musrifoon (going beyond limits) (7:81), Qaumun Aadoon (transgressing bounds) (26:166), Qaumul Mufsideen (mischievous people)(29:30), and Zalimeen (evildoers) (29:31). In other words they were extremists to the nth degree. The civilizers’ dilemma: How to declare those who want to legitimize this practice in the Muslim society as moderates and those who question this extremism as extremists and hardliners?

It is an impossible task but that has not kept the daring from trying. No wonder the new champions cannot agree on what their argument is. One of them, Scott Siraj al-Haqq Kugle says “The Koran does not condemn homosexuality.” Another pundit, Arash Naraghi, an Iranian academic in the US, says that the Qur’an does condemn homosexuality but it is okay anyway because reason says so. “Verses decrying homosexuality…stem from common beliefs at the time of writing, and should be re-examined,” he declares. The Economist, which is searching for “theological latitude,” quotes both of them with satisfaction and without the smallest hint that they are mutually contradictory, as means of making “progress”. 1

The story of the people of Prophet Lut (Lot) is mentioned in more than ten surahs in the Qur’an. This is a story of crime, defiance, and punishment: Unprecedented crime, extremism in insisting on that crime, and exemplary punishment. Anyone who reads this narrative with an open mind can have not the slightest confusion about Islam’s attitude about homosexuality. People do have a right to accept or refuse to accept Islamic teachings, values, and commandments. But no one has a right to lie about them. Unfortunately there are many who are willing to do just that these days. This account is, therefore, offered to set the record straight.

The first thing the Qur’an mentions is that homosexual practice was invented by the people to whom Prophet Lut was sent as a messenger. He is very emphatic about this: “And [remember] Lut, when he said unto his people: ‘Do you commit abominations such as none in all the world has ever done before you?’” (Al-A’raf 7:80)

The Qur’anic word is al-fahisha, which means lewdness, shameful act, indecency. Fornication and adultery (zina) are also mentioned as examples of fahisha in the Qur’an. (Isra 17:32). But here the definite article al is added to show the even more serious nature of this act. Homosexual act is not fahisha but al-fahisha. It is not just a shameful act but the shameful act, the lewdness, the abomination.

Secondly in telling that no one before them committed this act, the Qur’an uses the word min in addition to ahadin. Without this, it would still mean that no one did it before you. But with min emphasis is added. In other words, no one whosoever ever did this act among all the creatures. This is an outright rejection of the claim that this tendency is an inborn and ingrained part of nature for which no person should be held accountable. Prophet Lut accuses them of having made this choice. And the Sodomites do not say that they are helpless because it is a call of nature. Rather they say, “You know very well what we want.” (Hud, 11:79). And that the Prophet would be added to the list of people who have been expelled from their city for objecting to their practices if he does not cease and desist from criticizing their way of life. (Al-Shu’ra 26:167). They are the inventors of this perversion and fully committed to use of violence to defend it.

This Qur’anic account regarding the genesis of this perversion is attested to not only by the Bible and the Talmud but also by the terms used to describe this act in languages around the world. It is sodomy in English, sodomie and sodomiser (the doer) in French, sodomia and sodomizar in Spanish and sodomi in Norwegian. Sodomie in German and sodomia in Polish also refer to variant forms of sexual perversion. All pointing to the fact that it was invented in Sodom, which was the principle city of these people. In Arabic and languages influenced by it like Urdu the term used is liwatat or aml qaum lut, referring to the practice of the people of Prophet Lut. Again it is pointing to the same date and place of invention.

The date is about four thousand years ago. For thousands of years before that no one ever felt the urge for this perversion. Obviously if it was in human nature then some people in earlier times should also have expressed this inclination. The place is the area now submerged under the Dead Sea. This was a very prosperous and rich fertile land. Then the punishment came in the form of a huge earthquake and rain of brimstones and fires that turned their world upside down. The area then became the lowest point on the face of the earth, being about 1300 feet below sea level. It was submerged under the ocean and turned into a desolate place where little life exists. Its harsh environment permits neither fish or other sea animals nor aquatic plants. It was as the Qur’an said: “And verily of that We have left a clear sign for people who have sense.” (Ankabut 29:35).

Sodomites committed other crimes as well like highway robbery and performing shameful acts in public as mentioned in one place in the Qur’an (Ankabut 29:29). But their biggest crime was homosexuality, which is mentioned repeatedly. And then there was defiance. When Prophet Lut warned them about divine retribution, they challenged him to bring it on. (Ankabut 29:29). Their fate was thus sealed by their own demand. That was before the angels arrived at the scene. Their invasion of the house of Prophet Lut for the explicit purpose of molesting the angels who appeared in the guise of beautiful young men was thus just the last nail in their coffin. It was not the primary reason for their punishment.

Some people have tried to distort the Qur’anic account by claiming that their crime was rape not homosexuality. Others have surmised that the problem was that they were targeting young children, otherwise it would be fine. The Qur’an does not leave the slightest possibility of such interpretation. It says: “Verily, with lust you approach men instead of women.” (Al-A’raf 7:81). It is rijal (men) not atfal (children). It is for the act itself, without any mention of compulsion, that they are called as musrifoon (going beyond limits).

Also significant is the role of Prophet Lut’s wife. While in the entire town only one house was saved, that of Prophet Lut, even in that house there was an exception. It was the wife of the Prophet, who was killed with the rest of the people. Her fate is mentioned repeatedly so it does not remain just a footnote to the story. Why was she punished? Not for committing homosexual acts but for betraying her husband (Tahreem 66:10). She betrayed the cause of her husband by being an active sympathizer with the people and therefore shared their fate.

When the people invaded the house of Prophet Lut, and he was at the point of despair, the people were blinded by the angels (Qamar 54:35). We can see a figurative blindness in the people who try to make a case for approval of homosexuality in Islam. A most bizarre argument that has been forwarded by some of them is that the Qur’an mentions the presence of young boys as servants in Paradise. Interestingly it is the same people who argue that the modern homosexual affair is between consenting adults and that they also agree that sex with young boys is wrong. Yet that is what comes to their lustful minds when they read the accounts of the servants in the Qur’an. If they had maintained their sensibilities, they would have realized that this Qur’anic account actually gives exactly the opposite message. In Paradise women will not be in the public places. They will be in the private space, where they will not face the attention of anyone except their husbands (“houris, cloistered in cool pavilions” Rahman 55:72). Young boys will be in all the public places, because those who enter Paradise will not look at them with any sexual desires. They will have nothing to worry as those who could look at them with desire will not be in Paradise at all. They will be in the exact opposite of Paradise, whose small manifestation was given to the people of Prophet Lut.

May Allah protect us all from the Fire and the acts that lead to it.

Should a homosexual get married?

QUESTION

Assalaamu Alaikum,

I have been asked the following question. I would appreciate your response to it.

I know the act of homosexuality is haraam in Islam, but the person is not punished for their desires so long as they refrain (is this correct?) – but I wondered in the case of a homosexual muslim is it better for him or her to remain unmarried and celibate or to marry the opposite gender and risk violating the prohibition on treating spouses unfairly? I’ve heard of hadith in which Muhammad (pbuh) prohibited celibacy but I’m not sure if these are authentic and what the context of these is.

ANSWER

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

At the outset, it is a common misconception that a person can be born with such inclinations. However, this is not true. Consider the following Hadith:

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said:

حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَمَّادَ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ، يُفَسِّرُ حَدِيثَ ‏”‏ كُلُّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ ‏”

“Every child is born on a natural disposition”

The natural disposition that Allah has created within humans is that males are attracted to females and vice versa.

A person becomes inclined to such activity due to the company he keeps, the material he reads or views or other external influences. It is not a natural inclination.

An innate inclination towards homosexuality does not render it natural and ultimately acceptable. If a person is inclined to the same gender, he is required to curb his desires just as in the case where a person is inclined to a woman who is Haram for him. He is required to control his desires and abstain.

Islam has recognised the needs of a person and has paved a path for him to fulfil these desires through Halal methods. Nikah (marriage) has been ordained so that people may fulfil their desires in a Halal way.

Nikah is a Sunnah of all the Prophets and in particular a Sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam).

It was narrated from Aishah that: The Messenger of Allah said: “Marriage is part of my sunnah, and whoever does not follow my sunnah has nothing to do with me. Get married, for I will boast of your great numbers before the nations. Whoever has the means, let him get married, and whoever does not, then he should fast for it will diminish his desire.” (Ibn Majah-1846)

From the above narration, we understand that we are encouraged to practise on this Sunnah of Nikah.

The remedy of marriage is also found in the story of Lut (Alayhis Salaam) when he called on his people to marry, because that is an effective remedy in which the one who is affected by this illness can direct his desires in the permissible manner of Nikah.

In the aforementioned Hadith, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) also gave a remedy to the people who are not able to get married (due to some financial reason etc.). They are required to diminish their desires through fasting.

Therefore, it is essential that one who has these inclinations curbs his desires, sincerely repents to Allah and strives to do acts of obedience and when he feels that he has started going in the right direction, he may marry someone who will keep him chaste.

Why is Homosexuality Prohibited?

Question:

Salam! I am a teenager from pakistan. I am doing my a levels. Several people around me are supporters of the lgbtq community. As much as I try to condemn it is hard doing so overtly as it ends up in me being ostracised. In all honesty I am not clear on islams view on homosexuality. Why it’s forbidden and when they ask me why I’m against it I end up saying because islam says so but obviously it says so for a reason. I want to know why so i can refute the argument of such people and hold strong in my faith. They interpret quranic ayat is ways that make it seem okay. They quote imams who condone homosexuality. I am truly confused. I have tried to do an online search on the matter numerous times but to no avail as all website say It’s wrong but not why. If it’s because of procreation isn’t that an exceeding problem with the growing population anyway. Please try to get back to me so that I can clear my view on the matter. I don’t wear the hijab or pray 5 times a day so is my not condoning homosexuality just as bad because I’ve heard that. JazakAllah.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

We make dua Almighty Allah grants you the tawfeeq to get back onto the straight path, perform your daily Salaahs and adhere to the laws of hijab.

Engaging with individuals inclined to homosexuality is a sensitive and delicate matter. Thus, when dealing with homosexuals, we should not aim to disgrace or humiliate anyone. We engage with them with the same level of dignity and respect afforded to every fellow human being. It is of utmost importance to note that we as Muslims show displeasure and resentment towards the sin itself, not the sinner. We deal with them in the same manner we deal with those burdened with other major sins such as alcohol consumption, gambling or adultery.

As Muslims, we are bound to follow and abide by the commandments of Almighty Allah whether we understand the logic and wisdom behind the laws or not. Hence, we are completely subservient to Allah. As Muslims, we vehemently guard our beliefs and protect our beliefs from any action that will compromise our (Imaan) faith and belief in Allah Ta’ala.

As Muslims, we believe that Almighty Allah has revealed a perfect and practical religion that will be applicable to us until the end of time. This perfection leaves no room for editions and reinterpretations. Consider Verse 3 of Surah Maaidah,

Translation: “This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have approved for you Islam as the religion.”

It is evident from this verse that once Almighty Allah has decreed a law, we cannot decide to change or alter it simply because it suits us.

Homosexuality has been prohibited in both the Holy Quran as well as the Hadith.

Almighty Allah makes mention of the people of Lut (Alayhis Salaam),

Translation: “And (We had sent) Lut when he said to his people, Do you commit such immorality as no one has preceded you with from among the worlds? Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people.”

As far as the Quranic narrative is concerned regarding the nation of Lut (Alayhis Salaam), the classical jurists are in unanimous agreement that the sin of the nation was homosexuality. It was not the rape of men, as is claimed by proponents of homosexuality.[1]

As for prohibition from the hadith,[2]

Translation: “Allah does not look at a man who enters (has sex with) a man or a woman in the behind.”

No amount of reinterpretation can escape the apparent and intended meaning of the above hadith. To deny the prohibition of homosexuality is to deny the Quran and Hadith. Evidently, that is extremely detrimental to ones faith.

Nevertheless, your main query remains unanswered as of yet. Why is homosexuality prohibited?

To understand this, one must first acknowledge that Almighty Allah has laid down a Deen for us to practice upon. None can question Him with regards to the ‘why’. It is also imperative to understand that many laws of the Shari’ah cannot be understood. For example, why do we have to specifically pray five times a day? Why have men been prohibited from wearing silk? In the same vein, why is homosexuality prohibited?

We are first and foremost, the slaves of Almighty Allah. The position of a slave is to obey without question. This worldly abode is no more than a test from Almighty Allah. Almighty Allah has allowed and permitted many things. However, He has also imposed restrictions. These restrictions range from what we are permitted to consume all the way to the extent to which we may derive pleasure from our spouses. An example of this is the case of anal intercourse with ones spouse. This has been prohibited as was understood by the hadith quoted earlier.

However, jurists of the past have ventured to try and explain some wisdoms behind certain rulings and laws. Quite a few remain unexplained even till today. When it comes to homosexuality, most have stated that it is an unnatural ‘filthy’ act. It goes against the basic principles of procreation and is considered to be beneath human dignity.

We shall now list a few arguments made for homosexuality and the responses.

#1. Is this act actually unnatural?

Today we find advocates for homosexuality claiming that this act is not ‘unnatural’, as it has been observed amongst animals as well. If the criteria for defining the morals and ethics of humanity is based on conformity with actions of animals, then we truly are a lost cause. How many strange and odd practices are found in the animal kingdom? Will we venture and assert that they too are ‘natural’? It has been observed that a female mantis will bite off the head of its mate during intercourse. Other unnatural acts range from necrophilia to Apophallation! Is all this now ‘natural’ simply because animals do it?

If we do accept homosexuality as a natural inclination, will we also accept as natural all other bizarre inclinations experienced by people such as necrophilia, paedophilia, bestiality and incest? What would be the main difference between all these acts? In actuality, this is the direction society is currently headed towards. Some countries have begun legalising consensual incest between adults! Are these really morals and ethics we wish to emulate?

#2. Why is it a problem if it doesn’t harm anybody?

An argument often raised is that no one is harmed in homosexuality as it is a consensual act between two adults. Consider this, if two siblings consensually agree to sleep with each other and refrain from creating inbred offspring, will this now be acceptable since there is no harm? May Almighty Allah protect us. How was a line drawn between an inclination which is acceptable and an inclination that is not? We must understand that the morals and ethics set by Allah are objective, whereas the morals of secular societies today are subjective. This is evident if one were to observe societies today. How then can we alter our values and morals, especially if the alternative is pure self-indulgence.

#3. Why was I born with these inclinations?

Another argument often put forward is that these are inclinations one was born with. This cannot be accepted as Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alahyi Wasallam) has clearly stated,[3]

أن النبي صَلى الله عَلَيه وَسَلم، قَالَ: كُلُّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ

Translation: “Each child is born upon a natural disposition.”

In Islam, the discussion of whether these urges are because of ‘Nature’ or ‘nurture’ is really quite irrelevant. By this we do not mean that we do not have an answer to this question. We believe that the fitrah that Allah created us upon is that, in terms of sexuality at least, opposites attract. But it is likely that some people have corrupted this fitrah themselves, or it has been corrupted by external methods.

More often than not, these inclinations develop as a result of environmental influences, similar to what is seen in many other human traits. It is possible that this rise in unnatural inclinations is because of the proliferation of hypersexuality all around us. Everywhere one looks, the eye is met by pictures, posters and advertisements of nearly nude, beautiful men and women. This has desensitized us to such an extent that we now crave more and there is no end in sight. Looking at barely covered models hardly arouses us anymore. Our sexual desires have now become insatiable.

Children do not portray sexual interest in other genders until ages that are close to puberty. Are we to believe that they remain unaffected by the sexuality and decadence constantly flaunted in their faces? All these factors play a much larger role than given credit in determining sexual preferences.

#4. I do have these inclinations. What now?

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to accept that an individual does ‘naturally’ experience these inclinations, then such feelings still do not justify acting them out. This will be considered to be a test from Almighty Allah. Remember, one will not be questioned regarding his inner thoughts. However, once these thoughts are brought into action, one will have disobeyed Almighty Allah. An innate inclination towards homosexuality does not render it ultimately acceptable. A person experiencing such thoughts is required to curb his desires, just as in the case of one who is inclined to a woman who is Haraam for him. Both are required to control their desires and abstain from indulgence.

#5. What does the Bible have to say in this regard?

Islam is not the only religion to condemn homosexuality. Consider the following passages from the Bible,

Corinthians 6:9-10 English Standard Version (ESV)

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Leviticus 18:22

“You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”

Leviticus 20:13

“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.”

#6. Is incest illegal?

Incest laws:

In the United Kingdom, as per the Sexual Offences Act 2003, sex with an adult who is related as parent, adoptive parent, grandparent, child, adopted child, grandchild, brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister, uncle, aunt, nephew or niece, is illegal.[4]

In South Africa, according to the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007, incest, bestiality and necrophilia are prohibited and classified as illegal.[5]

Article 213 of the Swiss Penal Code prohibits incest. Intercourse among siblings or other persons related by blood in direct line is punishable by up to 3 years’ imprisonment.[6]

In conclusion, the religion of Islam is the final religion revealed by Almighty Allah. The laws laid down are to maintain human dignity and cover all possible aspects of human life. A Muslim is required to submit to this and accept the commands of Almighty Allah. The propaganda of the west is at constant war with the values of our Deen. These are difficult times we live in. We must stay steadfast upon the truth no matter how difficult. Bear in mind that this is a sensitive and delicate matter. We must always conduct ourselves with dignity and represent our faith with the character of our beloved Prophet (Sallallahu Alahyi Wasallam). This beautiful religion of ours does not promote hate in any form.

We also advise you to keep the following hadith in mind,[7]

Translation: “Ibn Abbas narrates, I was behind Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) one day when he said, O boy! I will teach you a statement. Be mindful of Allah and he will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find him before you. When you ask, ask Allah. When you seek aid, seek the aid of Allah. Know that if the entire creation were to gather together to benefit you, you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written it for you. And if they were to gather to harm you, you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you. The pens are lifted, and the pages are dried.”

Whilst commentating on this hadith, Ibn Rajab Hanbali (Rahimahullah) explains that Almighty Allah will protect ones Deen so long as he is mindful of the laws and commands of Almighty Allah. If he begins to ignore these commands and duties, Almighty Allah no longer protects his Deen. This is why faith related doubts are created in the heart and mind.[8]

You have stated that unfortunately, you are not very particular upon your Salaah and hijab. Insha-Allah, by rectifying yourself and striving against yourself, you will see these doubts gradually depart your heart and mind.

Can homosexual behaviour be justified in Islam?

Nasihah (Advice): The evil act of homosexuality

Sayyiduna Jaabir Radhiyallahu Anhu who reported that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said, “There is nothing I fear more for my Ummah than the deed of the people of Lut (Alayhi salaam).” (Tirmidhi)

Question and Answer:

Q. I am a student studying medicine, in my faculty I receive arguments and I see evidence on the Biological accounts with regards to gay and lesbian people for example I’ve seen children who I examine with extra amounts of testosterone etc. which causes them to be attracted to the same sex.

I know that this is completely prohibited in Islam and I completely agree but how do I respond to cases as such which produce medical and psychological explanations? What is the exact ruling as to why gays and lesbians are prohibited? How can I respond to other Muslims who argue that some people are born this way (imbalance in their body) causing this attraction?

A. “And Lut, when he said to his people,

‘Do you commit an obscenity

not perpetrated before you

by anyone in all the worlds?

You come with lust to men instead of women.

You are indeed a depraved people.’

The only answer of his people was to say,

‘Expel them from your city!

They are people who keep themselves pure!’

So We rescued him and his family –

except for his wife.

She was one of those who stayed behind.

We rained upon them a rain (of stones).

See the final fate of the evildoers!”

(Quran 7:80-84)

There have always been cases of effeminate men and masculine women throughout history. Such was prevalent even during the time of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam. These biological variances do not legalise what Allah Ta’ala has prohibited.

There are many people that are naturally aggressive and many that are naturally passive, many that are prone to violence and many that are naturally submissive. This does not justify the strong taking advantage of the weak or of one person abusing another.

Natural tendencies or inclinations do not justify or legalise divine prohibitions. Man, by nature, is attracted to and lusts over women. This does not legalise rape, fornication or adultery. Women, by nature, are jealous of women who are more attractive or popular than them. This does not justify cattish and malicious behaviour. Similarly, being attracted to the same sex does not legalise homosexual behaviour. Some may say that in the other behaviours there is harm caused to others, but in homosexual behaviour no one is harmed. It is the choice of two consenting persons. This is untrue. There is much harm in homosexual behaviour and that harm affects society as a whole. One of its most disastrous harms is that it effectively disintegrates the natural family system.

We must be conscious of the fact that homosexual and liberal sexual behaviour is aggressively promoted and celebrated by modern media. At the same time, chastity, marriage and family values are disparaged and ridiculed. This has played a major role in the erosion of the family unit and the increasingly high rates of divorce that have currently beset our society. The loss of the values and stability that a good family home provides, with the discipline of the father and the compassion of the mother, coupled with the negative impact of the media has led to such mental issues in society that were previously unheard. Millions of youth now suffer depression. Thousands, if not millions, do not know if they are male or female or something else.

The tragedy of this is that many of these mental issues are now promoted as normality. First we had the LGB (lesbian, gay, bisexual) movement. It then became LGBT (including transgender). Then it became LGBTQ, then LGBTQI, then LGBTQIAGNC (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, intersex, asexual and gender-non-conforming) and it still continues. Society is expected to accept all of this as normal and if you do not, then you are homophobic, hateful and unreasonable.

This absurdness is the consequence of embracing perversion as normality. Describing the nature of humankind, Allah Ta’ala states, “And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it; then inspired it with its (instincts of) evil and piety.”(91:7, 8)

Humans have been created with inherent qualities of good and evil. Having evil tendencies is intrinsic within us. Yet, this does not legalise the commission of sin. Allah Ta’ala has given humanity the ability to choose between right and wrong. Human beings have the capacity to transcend the angels by choosing to live righteously and subduing the evil within them or to be more debased than swine by choosing to rebel against the Almighty and embracing sin and depravity. It is this choice that sets humans apart from animals and it is by virtue of this choice that humanity is accountable on the Day of Judgement.

The “born like that” argument which is a common argument used in support of homosexual behaviour is untenable from an Islamic viewpoint. A person’s triumph is not in succumbing to the forbidden desires within them. Rather, it is in conquering those very desires and rising above them.

Allah states in the Qur’an, “But as for him who feared standing before his Lord, and restrained himself from evil desires and lusts. Verily, Paradise will be his abode.” (79:40, 41)
