There are those who resent the idea of worship. They resent the idea that God will judge them. They feel indignation at the thought that they should have to submit to God’s will. These are not people who don’t believe that God exists. They know God but only as the object of their resentment and bitterness, so they scorn religion, mock religious people, and curse God out of their spite. Why? Because deep down they believed themselves to be greater than God Himself, wiser and more just. They in essence set up false expectations of God and asked, “Why did God allow this, and why did God require that?” They want to judge God and they want God to submit to their will and their sense of right and wrong. So they follow the sunnah of Satan and Pharaoh and, if they persist, will meet the same end.
