Visiting the Graveyard on the day of Eid

Visiting of the graveyard is always a
virtuous and recommended act for men. It is by consensus a Mustahab (preferable) act based on numerous hadiths that have been reported on this issue. [See for example: As-Subki, Shifa as-Siqaam 194, Ad-Dehlawi, Ashi’atul Lum’aat 1/715]

An example of such hadith is the
following:

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“I had prohibited you from visiting the graves; but now I encourage you to visit them, because they are a reminder of the Hereafter” [Abu Dawud 3235]

Visiting graves on the day of the two Eids, Al-Fitr and Al-Adha, is even more
recommended due to a specific hadith
reported encouraging this practice.

Hadhrat Ali (Allah be pleased with him) said: “To raise the voice (that is
reciting aloud) in the prayer of the two Eids is from the Sunnah and to go out too…
